King David showed tremendous kindness and hospitality to Saul's grandson Mephibosheth, who was crippled in both legs. Mephibosheth was also his best friend Jonathan's son.

David demonstrated God's love in 3 ways:

1. Love that extends to even a friend of a friend (Jonathan), for the sake of that friend (v.1)

2. Kindness that brings extravagant generosity (v.7)

3.Restores and Gives a new identity, in the King's family = Eat at the table like a son (v. 11).
