The Forever Foreigner stereotype has been a racist/xenophobic label that has been placed on many minority groups in this country by the majority for centuries, even if minority families have lived in this country for generations. Unfortunately Christians are not excused from having this bias against those they perceive as foreigners. That’s why the church has come to be known as the most segregated place on Sundays for a variety of reasons, some good and some bad.
Contrary to the world’s way, if you are a foreigner or know foreigners, be encouraged that God has a special place in his heart for you. Because
1. God cares for the foreigner. (Lev 19:33-34)
2. God defends the foreigner. (Deut 27:19)
3. God wants us to be foreigners. (John 15:19).
Take home idea: As followers of Jesus Christ, we are forever foreigners. Embrace that identity as good news.
