Have you ever asked God “Why...?”

Why did this happen? Why would God allow that to happen? These are natural questions that come up in our seeking to understand how God works our world. It’s easy to conclude if God is all knowing, all powerful then he could prevent many terrible things. Are the hard things that happen our fault? God’s fault? It’s difficult to build faith in God if these questions are swirling around in the back of our minds. The good news is that they can lead us down the road to understanding the character of God. Sunday we will take another step in sharping our mental image of God by looking at God’s sovereignty.

Reflection Questions:

1. If God is infinite, how does it affect all of His other characteristics?

2. What areas in your life do you need to know that God is infinite?

3. How does Isaiah 55:8-9 frame God’s transcendence?

4. How do you balance God as approachable yet transcendent in every area of creation and life?

5. How would you define God’s sovereignty?

6. How is God’s chosen name “Lord” connected to His sovereignty? How is this significant?

7. How’s the story of the man born blind in John chapter 9 connected to how Jesus understood God’s sovereignty?
